Personal Automations allow you to control your devices, or your home, automatically. Create complex workflows to make repetitive tasks effortless. Unlike Home Automations, these run on your personal device, and can only be run by you. However, Personal Automations have more capabilities, and can access your private information and services (such as sending messages).
In this How-To we're going to create an automation that turns down your screen brightness when Wind Down starts.
Requirements
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 13 or later
Step 1
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad

Step 2
Tap the Automation tab at the bottom

Step 3
Tap the "+" button at the top right, and choose Personal Automation.

Step 4
You will then have to choose the trigger group, which in our case, is "Sleep":

Step 5
You will then choose the "Wind Down Begins" option — this is your Trigger. Then, tap "Next".

Step 6
Now we have to define our actions, so tap the "Add Action" button and search for "Brightness", until you find "Set Brightness".

Step 7
Now that we have added the "Set brightness" action, this is where you could add other actions. For example, you could set a "Relax" scene that turns down the lights, or you could open your meditation application and turn on some relaxing music. To continue, tap "Next".

Step 8

To complete our automation, we're going to turn off the "Ask Before Running" option. Doing so will prompt you to confirm, choose "Don't Ask".

Now you have completed your Personal Automation — well done! You'll see it listed in your Automations tab, and tapping it will allow you edit it.
